Articles | Putting Out Your Campfire
Before retiring for the night, you must make sure the campfire is out. Extinguishing the campfire flames (or inferno) safely is a relatively easy, quick process that can prevent dangerous forrest fires.
Before we get into how to do it, it's important to note that a smaller campfire can be just as enjoyable as a larger bonfire and will definitelty be easier to maintain and put out. Regardless of how large or small your campfire is, do not leave it unattended! If you and your group are packing it in for the night or are leaving your camp site, put out the fire.
And now for putting out the campfire...
- After most of the wood has burned up, stir the charcoals and ashes with a long stick.
- Slowly pour some water over the remaining charcoals and ashes. Again, pour slowly and carefully to avoide smoke and ashes rising, which can be harmful to your eyes and lungs.
- Stir the wet ashes, and repeat as necessary until nothing is lit or burning.
